Jesse Sprinkle : behind the rock

Demon Hunter's original drummer, Jesse Sprinkle (Poor Old Lu, Dead Poetic), is very active in the Kampala, Uganda community. Please check the link to see how you can help!

Throughout his 6 trips ov
er the last 4 years, he has built a tight bond with the orphaned street kids there, most of whom are very creative and musical.

He has also befriended the family who runs “Paradise”, a safe haven for these children in the center of the slums. It’s been a dream of Jesse's to collaborate with these kids, and give them a chance to share their music.

Alpha Flood : Ex membros e atuais de Frost*, Pain of Salvation, Threshold, Darkwater & Neal Morse

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Se juntam em projeto...

Past and present members of Frost*, Pain of Salvation, Threshold, Darkwater and the Neal Morse Band join forces in the new band Alpha Flood.

The idea for this band originated in the mind of Dec Burke, former vocalist and guitar player of Frost* and Darwin’s Radio. “I had the desire to form a band that would combine modern progressive rock and metal elements with more song-oriented music,” Dec Bur
ke explains.
“And when time and opportunity presented itself to work with some world class musicians that I have respected and admired for many years, I went all in.”

First on board was Collin Leijenaar, long time live drummer for Neal Morse: “While I was finishing my Affector album Dec called to ask if I would be interested in joining his new band. Being a fan of Dec’s music, I jumped in without hesitating.” Kristoffer Gildenlöw (ex-Pain of Salvation), Simon Andersson (Darkwater) and Richard West (Threshold) soon followed to complete the line up. Richard: “I wasn’t looking to join another band but when I heard the music it was so compellingly beautiful that I couldn’t resist.” Simon adds: “To be asked to form a band with these musicians was a true honour. Years ago I used to play along to their songs, imagining how it would be to be in a band with them. And now here we are. I'm thrilled!“

Dec: “As soon as we started writing music together it was obvious that there's an awesome chemistry between us. And rest assured, this is not a one-album project, but a band that's here to stay!“ Alpha Flood is currently in the studio recording their debut album to be released in 2013. Kristoffer ends: “We can’t wait to bring this music to the stage and kick some serious ass!”

Line-up:
Dec Burke – vocals & guitars
Kristoffer Gildenlöw – bass guitars
Richard West – keyboards
Simon Andersson – guitars
Collin Leijenaar – drums

Stay tuned for more Alpha Flood news in the coming weeks.

Review live show : The Unshakable Tour | For Today, Impending Doom, Sleeping Giants, Texas in July, Hundredth

Original Article Site : http://www.indievisionmusic.com/2012/11/11/the-unshakable-tour-for-today-impending-doom-sleeping-giant-texas-in-july/

Artists: For Today, Impending Doom, Sleeping Giants, Texas in July, Hundredth
Tour:
The Unshakable Tour, presented by World Vision
Venue:
 The Chameleon Club, Lancaster, PA
Concert Date: Friday, November 9, 2012
Reviewer: Eric Pettersson

About a year ago, I stepped down from my writing position here at IVM to pursue my own blog, Explore Reading, which seeks to promote the life and culture of my city, Reading, PA. Yet as much as I love that project, sometimes I miss covering the Christian music scene, and I just had to sneak back in here to reviewThe Unshakable Tour.

This tour wins three awards in my book: 1, most crowd surfing I’ve seen at a single concert. 2, most people I’ve seen injured in the pit. And 3, most preaching I’ve heard from stage.

Those who are familiar with For Today will not be surprised by any of these awards. I took my cousin who has probably seen about a hundred metal shows, including multiple performances by As I Lay Dying, Lamb of God, and Slayer, and he said For Today was hands-down the heaviest show he’s ever seen. The two of us have seen them twice before—once with Impending Doom, once with Texas in July—and the five-piece metalcore outfit delivered yet again.

Unlike many shows where only a handful of people care about the opening acts, The Unshakable Tour had the house moving from beginning to end. Unfortunately we made it a little late and missed Hundredth, but we arrive just in time to catch the start of our local boys Texas in July. Hometown shows always have a special energy to them, but what really impressed me was the precision with which these guys played. Even though this was also my third time seeing Texas in July, I was still struck by how tight their sound has become. They played through favorites from 2011’s One Reality, including “1000 Lies” and “Magnolia,” along with several songs from the new self-titled album, released just one month before the show. Vocalist Alex Good and bassist Ben Witkowski dove into the crowd for the final breakdown, and I have to say he was probably lucky to get his bass back after that rowdy ending.

Sleeping Giant’s lead vocalist Tommy Green started the night by asking the crowd to join him in prayer for his friend’s daughter. He got a message earlier in the night that she was found floating in a swimming pool, not breathing, but after 20 minutes of prayer he got another message that the girl was alive. He asked us to pray with him for total healing before launching into a hard-hitting, fast-paced set. Members of Hundredth filled in on bass and guitar, but I would never have known from how well they played. Green stopped after each song to speak for a minute or two about issues of faith, emphasizing again and again that they wanted to offer hope and support, not judgment and condemnation. Before singing “Jehova Shalom,” he criticized so-called worship music that is “all about me, me, me, me, us, us, and not about Him.” “Worship is about a relationship,” he said. “It’s about singing straight to Him, not to me or you, and that’s what I’m doing on this song.” Later he shared his testimony, including a past riddled with abuse, divorce, and thoughts of suicide before accepting the divine forgiveness that allowed him to forgive others too. He led the crowd in saying the classic “sinner’s prayer” for any who wanted to share in that forgiveness. Before launching into “Eyes Wide Open,” he guided everyone in symbolically declaring freedom from bondage to anger and fear, challenging everyone to live their faith more fully and publicly.

Many people in the crowd seemed energized by this preaching, but when we decided to take a break from the pit for Impending Doom and head up to the bar, we met a guy who was less impressed. “I had to get away from all those speeches,” he shared with us, “I feel for him, but I’ve been through a lot of that stuff too, and I wasn’t really coming here to think about it and get depressed. I wanted to hear some metal and party.”

Impending Doom gives this tour some musical variety. Their guttural growls and thick bass shook the house, adding some death metal to a more hardcore-leaning lineup. After their set, a representative from World Vision came forward to share a little about their Christian humanitarian work, pray for the crowd, and encourage people to become sponsors. Those who pledged received a commemorative tour t-shirt.

Next another guy came up and shared his testimony before For Today finally came out and played, but I honestly didn’t catch who he was or much of what he was saying because by this point about half the crowd was done listening to people preach from stage and had all turned to their friends for conversation while waiting to get back to the music.

As the guy left, the lights went dark, and “The King,” the opening track off For Today’s new album Immortal, played while the guys took their place on stage. The song flowed right into “Fearless,” and the crowd sang along from front to back. Even though frontman Mattie Montgomery chose to preach between almost every song, he also seemed aware that people were getting antsy and chose to keep it short each time, always apologetically saying, “Bear with me one minute. I just have something on my heart right now that I need to share with you guys.” Through the course of their time on stage, he spoke boldly about the potential of this generation to initiate a Christian revival in America today by living out powerful faith that can’t be denied by “the media” or “doctors and scientists.”

They played several other new songs, as well as heavy-hitting sing-a-longs from their previous record, Breaker, such as “White Flag,” “Arm the Masses,” “The Advocate,” “The King,” and “Seraphim.” Sleeping Giant’s Tommy Green came back out to lend the guest vocals he also performed on the recorded version of “Under God.”

As I listened to Mattie preach, I couldn’t help but think of Charles Finney, the foremost evangelist of the mid-1800s. Finney let people know going to church wasn’t enough to be a Christian; they had to make a personal commitment to follow Jesus. He did a lot of things that make modern evangelicals a little embarrassed—he invented the altar call and unfortunately gave his share of fire and brimstone sermons—but he also pushed new believers to join the abolitionist movement and saw the gifts of the Spirit show up at his intensely emotional revival meetings. Finney, just like Mattie Montgomery, stirred up some controversy (especially among old-school Calvinists) by preaching the old Wesleyan doctrine of Christian perfection, claiming that we can be totally free from the power of sin in this life. He is no stranger to Christian rock, either. Keith Green claimed Finney’s writings as a major influence on his own thinking and preaching.

As can be expected at any concert these days, the band ended a song and abruptly walked off stage, keeping the lights low and waiting for the obligatory “one more song” chant to begin. For Today didn’t keep us waiting long, and returned for a bone-crushing performance of “Breaker,” a song with one of the heaviest breakdowns I’ve ever heard.

Overvall: The Unshakable Tour puts a modern twist on the Spirit-filled hardcore that got this whole scene going back in the 1990s. All of the bands put on really solid shows, and they fit together well. It was also great to see World Vision connecting with people, offering prayer at their booth and speaking about their political advocacy to end human trafficking and sex slavery. My only complaint is that I wish The Chariot had been on the whole thing instead of just the first half, but we listened to their new album One Wing on our way down to the venue, so I guess we made up for it the best we could.

One Night Only – A Reunion Show with Stavesacre, Living Sacrifice, Puller, Ghoti Hook and Everdown. Saturday April 13th 2013 - Dallas, Texas.

One night only reunion show, Stavesacre, Living Sacrifice, Puller, Ghoti Hook, and Everdown, Saturday April13th 2013 in Dallas Texas.
Launched: Oct 18, 2012

One Night Only – A Reunion Show with Stavesacre, Living Sacrifice, Puller, Ghoti Hook and Everdown. Saturday April 13th 2013 - Dallas, Texas.

For most of the 90’s, Stavesacre, Living Sacrifice, Puller, Ghoti Hook and Everdown were on the road – and for large portions of that time and in some form or another, they were on the road together. On tours or at festivals (of all shapes and sizes) unique experiences were had and friendships were born – both among the bands that played and the fans that supported them. Moonlit road trips, gas station dining, new music, massive CD collections and of course: late nights and good people. If you feel any kind of nostalgia at this point, read on!

A few months back, Mike Lewis (Puller, zambooie.com) made a fake flyer for a fake show with a fake lineup in the very real city of Dallas, TX then posted it on facebook and tagged all the real bands. What followed were hundreds of comments and likes and… lots of wringing hands in the form of a common question: “Is this really happening?”

Well, that’s where you come in. We’ve put together this Kickstarter in hopes that we can make the reunion happen, and for as many people as possible.

These days, the assorted members of these bands are scattered all over creation, from across the U.S. to “across the pond.” Aside from Living Sacrifice, most of these bands haven’t played live together in years. Once upon a time we might’ve easily pulled this off as a stop on a tour or booked it as a weekend getaway gig, but to make it a reality now is slightly more challenging.
Turns out, same goes for the fans. We’re all… all over the place. Why Dallas, TX you ask? Well, in the 90’s and early 00’s Dallas/Ft. Worth always produced some of the largest, most passionate crowds in the country so… seemed logical! Plus, it’s sort of in the middle.
We created this Kickstarter to fund “One Night Only” without anyone risking too much to do it. We think our backing options accomplish this task.

There will be downloads. There will be shirts. There will be horsing around. There will even be some good ol’ fashioned Rock n’ Roll. (Well, you know what we mean.)

So yeah: It’s really happening – with your help. We plan to record and film the show – and to make both recordings available for download within a few weeks of completion. Your funding is your ticket to the show in whichever way you can attend. Obviously… WE WANT YOU THERE (it’s a reunion!) but we understand that some will simply not be able to make it. We believe this project enables us to satisfy even those who won’t be able to come along.

Thing is, the bands kind of need to be there. This isn’t about money, it’s about getting friends together. There are costs involved with travel, hotels, production and promotion. (Some things never change!) The audio and video will require engineering and editing. Not everyone can travel in Mark’s private jet. (No, Mark does not have a private jet.) People need to eat, sleep and shower in peace. We believe this project provides enough options for backers to get involved and make One Night Only a reality! So please, join in! Spread the word. Take a vacation and plan a road trip. We would LOVE to see you there. And from all the bands: Thanks. Thank you all, so very much. Thanks for checking out our Kickstarter, thanks for supporting all these years and thanks for remembering. Hope we see you there!

FIRST STRIKE : Vocalista comenta 'Rock Of Offense' ...

Video: Seventh Angel thrashing out at Brainstorm Festival 2012.

Live Compilation

Seventh Angel are a British metal band that formed in 1987. The band was known for its combination of doom metal and thrash metal. According to Cross Rhythms magazine, they were considered to be thrash metal pioneers, and they released the albums The Torment (1990) and Lament for the Weary (1991). These records achieved mainstream distribution through Music for Nations label, making Seventh Angel label mates with such groups as Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth. Although Seventh Angel disbanded in 1992, for a long time they were considered to be the best metal act in the UK, claims Cross Rhythms. The Daily Telegraph called Seventh Angel "one of the leading Christian thrash metal bands in Great Britain."

This is recorded on Saturday 3 November 2012 at Brainstorm Festival 2012, Gigant Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.

Anthology 1999-2013

Underoath will cap its incredible run with the release of a career retrospective album, "Anthology 1999-2013" available in stores and online November 6th. With tracks culled from their 1999 debut, "Act of Depression," through the instant classics on 2010’s "Ø (Disambiguation)," "Anthology 1999-2013" is an essential collection of songs that celebrates the evolution of this seminal band.

Pushing "Anthology 1999-2013" beyond a mere retrospective, the release gives fans one last chance to hear newly recorded material in the form of new tracks “Sunburnt” and “Unsound.” Recorded with longtime producer Matt Goldman, the two new songs represent the final material recorded by the band.

"Over the past decade or so of our lives, we have been able to live a dream traveling the world, playing music that excites us, and meeting more amazing people than we could have ever fathomed," says keyboardist Chris Dudley. "This couldn't be a more bittersweet moment for us. We have accomplished more, met more friends, seen more places and have just done more than we could have ever imagined, and we really wanted to just go out on the highest note possible. That's why we have put together a group of great friends and musicians for what will be our final tour ever. We are taking every moment of this tour as an opportunity to say goodbye to you all, as well as celebrate what has taken place over all these years. The love we have and the debt of gratitude that we owe to all of you is not able to be measured in any way

Ted Kirkpatrick.
